City Trip to Copenhagen
We had such a great time exploring the capital of Denmark last weekend and wanted to share with you my little recap of this city trip.
We arrived on Friday morning to a beautiful sunny day with a clear blue sky. From the airport we took a train to the central station of Copenhagen were we had a short walk (about 15min) to our Hotel in Vesterbro. On the way there we had a stop at one of the best bakerys in town, the Andersen Bakery. The variety of danish bakery is huge and it was really hard to decide on just one sweet! In the end I choose the cardamon roll, together with a nice big cup of coffee. We sat down in the cafe which is not that pretty, but you can have a look into the bakery and follow the baking process, which is such a nice idea. And nothing better than the smell of freshly baked Bakery in the air! I could spend the whole day in this cafe. This is not only a bakery, you also can have Sandwiches or cakes, fresh juices or breakfast eggs.
After this perfect start of our City trip we checked in our hotel the First Hotel Mayfair, which is located in a side street with a lot of nice Restarants nearby. I think pretty much all high-star rated Hotels are pretty close to the city center, so don't worry you can go easily everywhere by foot or rent a bike at the hotel!
After dropping off our luggage and a quick refresh we were off to explore the city on this beautiful winter day. We went to the well known waterfront, canal and entetainment district Nyhavn and visited the round Tower, where you have an stunning view over the city. You also can see the city of Malmö and the huge bridge which connects Denmark with Sweden. For a quick Lunch break we went to Christiania, which is across the bridge at Nyhavn to the street food market. You alsolutely need to go there when you are in Copenhagen. There are so many different trucks with specialities from around the world, local smorrebrod to indian noodles, american bbq burgers to sushi or french crêpe! We had a Falafel Pita at the Fala Fala, which I can highly recommend. We spend the evening near our hotel, went for dinner at the Italian Restaurant Frascati and afterwards for a cocktail to the Cube bar right next to the Restaurant.
Saturday Morning, time to sleep in for a bit as the day was forecast as grey and pretty foggy. We enjoyed our breakfast at the hotel and went afterwards into the city center the street Stroget from the town hall square to Nyhavn is so pretty, lots of nice shops and cute coffee shops! Once stopped there at the cafe Lagkagehuset for a danish delish, it was super yummy and one of the best rated danish bakerys in town. We went to see the Amalienborg Castle and all the way along the canal to see the famous little Mermaid statue, based on the fairy-tale story of the danish author Hans Christian Andersen. There are much more sights to visit so we went to see the Rosenborg Castle which is surroundet by a huge beautiful garden. It must be so pretty to see it when everything is blooming in the spring. After this long day we were pretty much exhausted and went back to the hotel. Had again dinner at an Italian place, Resto Gusto. Which was really nice and a good selection of italian wine.
Sunday, last full day in Copenhagen as we already checked off all our must-see places in town we thought we make a quite relaxed day. We sleped in and had a nice walk along the canal. From the Planetarium all the way up to the Holmens Kirkegad Park. It was a nice walk but the only downside was that the canals are trashed and very dirty! On the way back to the city center we had a look in several shops and stopped by the shopping center Illum where we had a delicious and healthy danish lunch on the rooftop Restaurant Palaeo. After getting strengthened we went to visit Christiansborg Palace, which was just a few streets away. It was slowly getting dark outside when we were on our way back to Vesterbro. We passed the attraction park Tivoli Gardens, which was unforunatly closed and opens only in April. We had dinner at the Bistro de Paris, a nice and cozy ambience. And ended this lovely weekend trip with a delicious Crème brûlée and mousse au chocolate.
Here a view impressions, enjoy!
