Weekend in Champagne
Northeast of France where the most popular and exclusive sparkling white wine has his origins - the Champagne!
Beside the five producing districts Aube, Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne belongs Reims and Epernay to the commercial centers. We went for a weekend getaway there and visited the city of Reims. Unfortunately we weren't lucky with the weather, it was raining and freezing cold for June. But that didn't stopped us by exploring the beautiful city sights.
The cathedral is amazing, probably the most impressive one I've seen so far. Beside the Champagne tours, there is not that much the city has to offer. But that's normal as it is known especially for the wine. So we took a tour at Maison Veuve Cliquote and I did not expected it to be that good.
It was very interesting, the whole story behind the production, the work and effort the attention for detail to perfection, just amazing! We loved it and definitely come back to visit other champagne houses. You also have the opportunity to book the tour with a Champagne tasting. We skipped that as we had to drive back to Luxembourg afterwards. But at least we bought two nice rare bottles of Champagne to take with us.
A trip to France is not the same without a stay in a château. This time we choose Domaine Les Crayères in Reims.
Another charming Relaix et Châteaux house beautiful in it's own way. We had a nice suite with a terrace overlooking the garden. After our city visit we enjoyed the afternoon in the Tea Lounge with a cup of green tea accompanied with some delicious Biscuit Rose de Reims some local sweets. Our Dinner in the Brasserie Le Jardin started upright with a glass of Champagne and ended with a romantic sunset walk through the château gardens.
