The Palace is just a short drive away from my hometown in Austria. It was the perfect spontaneously Sunday afternoon trip there. We walked around the gardens and visited the main building, which first was the Forester house of King Ludwig's father Maximilian II, used for hunting expeditions in the bavarian forest where the house is surrounded by.
Throughout 16 years of building and rebuilding (in 6 phases) the fascinating palace was finally completed. It's the only large palace that King Ludwig II was able to see completed, unfortunately he could not see the completion of the masterpiece. The King's bedroom with the measure of 30x27 meters, was finished after his death.
Beside the magnificent palace the gardens and park cover a total area of approx. 58 ha on which numerous of other beautiful buildings can be found. Like the Moraccan house, Royal Lodge, Temple of Venus, St Anna Chapel, Venus Grotto, Neptun Fountain with cascade and pergolas and so on and so on.
